Donations and Fund Raising
Like all mountain rescue teams, Kirkby Stephen MRT is a voluntary organisation and does not receive any government funding. Our activities are paid for by fund-raising efforts, the support of local businesses and public donations. The team needs an annual income in the region of £20,000 to maintain operations
The team receives support in various ways:
Collecting boxes are on display in shops, pubs, bed and breakfast accommodation and other local establishments.
- Financial donations are received from members of the public. Cheques can be made payable to "Kirkby Stephen Mountain Rescue Team" and sent to the Treasurer at our base headquarters. Contact us.
- As a registered charity, Kirkby Stephen Mountain Rescue Team can claim back the standard rate income tax you have paid on any donations. All that is needed is for you to complete a Gift Aid Declaration and send it to the Treasurer.
- Donations of equipment are received from local businesses. For example, the tyres on our three Land Rovers were recently replaced by Pirelli. If you have any equipment, which you think might be useful to the team, or you would like to help by purchasing some specific equipment, then please Contact us.
- Fund-raising events, such as concerts at local venues and talks have been held. For details of any forthcoming events, please see our Home Page.
- Collections are held twice-yearly at Tebay and Killington Services on the M6.
We are always interested in new ways of fund-raising and, if you have any ideas about how you would like to support the team, then please do get in touch.
